Research Journal 7

Because the class ongoes only for a semester, unlike the classes in the high school that continue for the whole year, I found the class somewhat short when compared to the classes back in the high school. I have a this feeling that every year somewhat gradually runs faster than the year before. I can't believe I was away from the home for about six years, not counting the time of vacations when I was back in Korea.

Since this class is the smallest class I have for this fall semester, it didn't take much time to know everyone's name in the class. Frankly, I decided to take this UW 020 class, for this matched my schedule. I was kinda astonished when I had realized that this UW 020 class was basically about the topic of women's autobiography. (I was like... um.... ok)

Without knowing anything about women's autobiography or how to approach the women writers' writings intrinsically made me difficult to evaluate their writings. However, because of this class, I reminded myself of the women's perspective in writings, news, medias, and so on.

Albeit the class was the most difficult class for me of this fall semester, it meant the most among the classes to me, for I had a lot of things to learn to write - much to take with me.

Baghdad Burning
The Novel by 'Riverbend' a computer programmer in Iraq, named Baghdad Burning, addresses to audiences or readers about the daily lives or rather, consistent complex time in Iraq, which is mainly on the topic of the terror that the terrorists in Iraq are 'celebrated' for.
Unlike her blog on the website - http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/, the Novel is more on her perspective as one of the people in Iraq, instead of relating the story also with foreigners' point of view. (Especially in means of US citizens, the book is not pleasant since the Iraq has a lot of influence from the US) While she should be thankful to US armies for Iraq's protection over the terrorists in Iraq, she is against them and questions why are the US armies being involved to a such matter that only should be gathered and solved within Iraq. Yet, as I followed her partial life events throughout the book, I found her story significant, for from reading the book one can remind the difficulty in Iraq and view oneself as if he/she were an Iraq person currently living in Iraq.
She often or always talk about her circumstance at home. The electricity is not always 'visible' and because of the light, she couldn't write or add to her journal for about the whole summer of 2004. Furthermore, the heat the climate in Iraq brings to the people in Iraq is troublesome. Too hot and no rain. It was good point for her to make a reference on the rain, saying that it is the main key to goods' and crops' growing up while cooling the heat down especially during the summer (when she wrote during summer), since most of people don't realize the good point of the rain.
It is pitiful to be in her situation espeicially when she talks about the national holidays in Iraq, including obvious holidays such as Christmas. For instance, during the Christmas day, there was a gunshot going on even from the early morning. If this is one's case, then the Christmas day for a such year wouldn't be a 'joyful' day to the one, but offering a feeling of 'sadness' or 'isolation' from the such event of the year.
Terror in iraq is just crazy that i don't even feel like to mention it. Terror is just ongoing process of everywhere and of any time. 'Riverbend' was afraid to work on the streets... some of nine presidents in Iraq, or puppets she call, dies from the terror. Innocent and guilty are in prison..., and etc.
In my opinion, the US armies definitely need to stay in Iraq; otherwise, the country Iraq itself would be destroyed, as well as the terrorists in Iraq would have more opportunity to spread their number.

Research Journal 4

Sorry for posting the research journal 4 so late. ^^;

I narrowed down my potential research topic from three to two, two topics being Angelina Grimke Weld (who supported for the women's rights and against the slavery); Rose Anna Summerfield (who supported for the women's equality). For now, my id tells me that I should go for Angelina Grimke Weld, for she had the same religious perspective as me; that is, the Christianity. Moreover, I found that she had written some good sources to support her view as a woman liberator.

From Lost in Translation
Huffman's role as being involved as a double immigrant prevents her to be used to the surrounding environment in Canada. Furthermore, only if she had more deeper and clear understanding about the background and the history of the Holocaust, could she have been more desiring to go to Canada.
However, the most important key to the possibility of her different perspective is that she ought to find her own ways to overcome her isolation and hatred within the society of Canada. She should visit places in Canada where she could locate herself in the position of joyness or happiness. From then, she had better just let the time passes before her, being more mature in terms of looking one's own worldview.
I personally was similar to Huffman in that I had refused to go to America at first when my parents asked me if I would like to go abroad to further my career in education. I didn't really want to go to America, for all my friends were in Korea. Therefore, when I initiated my studying in the America on the west coast of California for two years, I actually underwent the isolation and somewhat hatred to live in the USA. Yet, as the time elapsed by and I grew up to be older, I began to look diffently of my means of the current world and the worldview.

Research Journal 2

I chose the blog, which is mainly about the stories on the writing and family life of Karen Anne Mahoney, an author and a journalist. I chose this blog since I certalinly believe that this blog would promote me to relate it to the topic: Women's autobiography, for Karen herself is an author and a journalist. What I find interesting about it is the fact that she said that she is available for interviews, spiritual life, historical stories, all types of magazine articles, some technical writings, and etc.
Karen Anne Mahoney has been a temporary journalist for the last 17 years. She is a mighty Christian (I am unsure her religion, for she says that she loves God and Christ, but also the Roman Catholic Church) She is strongly rooted from her morality since she said, "Next to my husband and kids, my faith is most important." She likes to take photos in that she relate them with her stories and articles.
Furthermore, I also find not only the blog itself interesting, but the main characer Karen herself. She enjoys gardening, listening to music, watching movies, birdwatching, and etc. Her favorites are somehow similar to those of me, since I also find myself enjoying as I do similar things as her, things that I can do regardless to the rapidity of the time. To make a sentence clear, I enjoy things that I can do in terms of serenity.
